Digital Technology Partners Hosts State Representatives, Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities for Take Your Legislator to Work Day
Wednesday, October 24th, 2018, Digital Technology Partners’ Work4Eli division hosted State Representatives Dale Rutledge and Brian Strickland, as well as Hanna Rosenfeld and Hillary Hibben, Planning and Policy Development Specialist and Media Relations Director for The Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilites (GCDD), respectively. DTP’s special guests visited as part of The Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities’ month-long Take Your Legislator to Work Day event.
The Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities is the state’s leader in advancing public policy on behalf of individuals with developmental disabilities. Their mission is to promote public policy that creates an integrated community life for persons with developmental disabilities, their families, friends, neighbors, and all who support them. GCDD’s Take Your Legislator to Work Day is an opportunitity for employees with disabilities to invite their legislators to visit them at their place of work, and is grounded in the GCDD’s belief that visiting employees at work is the best way to show legislators that people with disabilities want to work, and are as capable as anyone at working real jobs for real wages. In addition, the GCDD believes elected officials will best understand the positive impact of publically funded employment supports if they see those in action.
The 2018 Take Your Legislator to Work Day event at Digital Technology Partners included a tour around the DTP office and Work4Eli lab, a presentation by E-Waste Techicians Hannah Hibben and Arianna White on computer dismantling and hard drive degaussing, as well as a viewing of Work4Eli’s latest behind the scenes video.
Digital Technology Partners’ Work4Eli division is the brainchild of owner Jonathan Kendrick, and his dream became a reality in March 2018. The division operates under the guidance of E-Waste Manager, Shawn Adkins. Since its inception, Work4Eli has provided weekly part-time employment to Hannah and Arianna, who have recycled almost 15,000 pounds of electronic waste. Work4Eli is not a non-profit, but rather a self-sustained program with a primary goal of providing meaningful employment to special needs adults. Work4Eli’s success relies on the equipment it brings in, and the more equipment Work4Eli brings in, the more jobs Digital Technology Partners can create!
